2018 has been a blissful year for small budget content-driven films. These films showed the power of content and created a lot of moolah at the box office. Be it Raazi, Stree, Andhadhun or the latest release Badhaai Ho; every film proved itself.
Now, talking about Badhaai Ho, the film was a laugh riot and the most notable performance was of Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao, people loved their sweet relationship which gave them many couple goals. But do you know that the part played by sensational Neena Gupta was originally woven for Tabu but she had to refuse it.

When Tabu was shown the script, she appreciated the script but declined the role claiming that she would not look the part, she then suggested Neena Gupta’s name to director Amit Sharma and that is how Neena came on board and we are very happy that she did.

At a recent event, director Amit Sharma says: "We had gone to Tabu ji for the role. At that time, we had a different script in mind and we wanted Tabu ma'am and Irrfan Khan sir. When she heard the script, she suggested Neenaji's name for her character. Tabu felt, perhaps rightly, that she looked like a woman who can still have a child."

He further reveals the story behind Gajraj Rao’s selection, he says: "Ayushmann jokingly suggested he should play both the father and son. It was Ayushmann who suggested Gajraj Rao's name. I knew him from the time we worked together for Pradeep Sarkar. When he heard the script for Badhaai Ho, he advised we get a bigger star to play the role since it was a major part. But I insisted on him. He agreed."

The film, meanwhile is doing exceptionally well and has grossed Rs. 61 crores in one week.
