2018 has been the year that became a testimony to the quote: “Content is the king.”
While movies like Badhaai Ho, Andhadhun performed exceptionally well and created moolah at the box office. Big Budget flicks like Race 3 and the latest release ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ fell flat on the surface because of lackluster content.
The Aamir Khan starrer started off with a bang by raking in 50 crore plus figures on Day 1 but as the negative word of mouth started spreading; the film went on a downhill. After facing a tremendous drop in collections on the second and third day, the multi-starrer faced the wrath of the audience and collected a feeble figure of INR 16 crore on Day 4, which was a Sunday.
Had the content been good, the film had easily fetched anything around 40 crores on a Sunday but looks like stars were not in Aamir Khan’s favour as he delivers one of the biggest flops of the decade.
This has broken Aamir’s winning streak at the box office and he must be in a lot of tension right now.
Reportedly, the film was given one of the massive releases with over 7000 screens around the globe, still, the film has drowned and it has drowned badly.
Talking about film’s devastating performance, film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted: “The DOWNFALL continues... #ThugsOfHindostan gets weaker with each passing day... With biz declining further on Day 3 [Sat], the writing is clear on the wall... Will find it tough to sustain from Day 5 [Mon] onwards... #TOH”
Now, after the failure of both the Khans this year, everyone is eyeing on Shah Rukh’s ‘ZERO’ and Rajnikant’s ‘2.O’ to create some fireworks at the box office.
