Director Pa Ranjith’s critically acclaimed movie Kaala that had Rajnikanth in lead role touched many chords as it talked about the sensitive issue of caste politics in India.

But, looks like International Film Festival of India or IIFI has some different thoughts about the movie which is why they did not select it for the Indian Panorama list.

Expressing disappointment over this case Ranjith has said: "Unfortunately, they have not selected the film at IFFI. I don't understand why 'Tiger Zinda Hai' was selected and 'Kaala' was not.”

The Indian Panaroma has a total of 26 feature and 21 non-feature Indian films that have been selected by a Jury panel.

Ranjith also commented on why more films are not made on burning issue of casteism, he told: "They (the producers) are not ready. They are still not letting the audiences get used to different types of cinema. Producers tend to not take risks thinking they will challenge the set pattern. I want to make it clear for other producers that such a story needs to be put out. Let Pariyerum Perumal be an example for the others.”

IIFI 2018 will be completed on 28th November 2018. The films that are selected in the event from Tamil Nadu region are: Peranbu, Chezhiyan’s To Let, Priya Krishnaswamy’s Baaram and Neelam Production’s Pariyerum Perumal.
