Mental illness in not only India but worldwide is a very misunderstood and tabooed topic which needs to be talked about more. That is what Priyanka Chopra spoke about while creating awareness about mental health. Facebook and Priyanka Chopra have collaborated for an important issue which is mental health and the initiative is called Social for Good.
India is filled with people who are not comfortable or even accepting to themselves about their mental state, depression, anxiety and various issues.
According to the WHO statistics, India stands on number 5 as the most depressed countries in the world. Looking at the seriousness of the matter, Priyanka is trying to spread awareness and change the perception of shaming and people who are trying to shut down discussions about mental health.
Ms Chopra spoke on the matter saying, “Anxiety is not stress. Depression is more than just a low feeling.” She further said that people need to open discussion and normalize the conversation. “The world needs to be open to having those conversations,” PeeCee tweeted.
PC further tweeted that it is completely alright to feel sad or numb. “We are human beings. It's all right to be vulnerable. As soon as a public person comes out about depression, there are people who shame them,” said the actor.
She opened about how the society and especially parents should make their kids feel and said, “As parents and teachers we need to tell kids it is ok to talk about it. We need to normalize the conversation.”
Imtiaz Ali, who is also part of the panel discussion said how much important mental health is and how he has treated the characters in his films. Be it Highway or Tamasha, the director said, “I never say that my character is bipolar as I am not a doctor”.
So, spread out awareness and speak about your mental health, it is good for you and the society as well.
