Emraan Hashmi who has not tasted success at the box office for quite some time now is having high hopes from his upcoming film titled ‘Cheat India’, oh I am sorry; it is ‘Why Cheat India’. Yes, the title of the film has been changed as CBFC’s scissors came to work. Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) objected to the title on the grounds of it being misleading and demanded the change.
The makers of the film issued a statement regarding this and the statement read: “The CBFC had concerns about the title Cheat India. We had an extensive conversation with the Examining Committee and Revising Committee regarding the proposed change as the film has been in public domain for a year, and more importantly, because the theatrical teaser, trailer and television promos had already been certified with the original title. This would lead to dual communication a week before the release. The duress of lack of time left us with no choice but to mutually agree to the new title, Why Cheat India.”
The film traces the educational scams that happened in our country in the early 2000s. Emraan will be playing the role of the mastermind who planned all these scams.
The film was slated to release on January 25 but two other films ‘Thackeray’ and ‘Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi’ are releasing on that day, so to avert the clash the release of ‘Why Cheat India’ has been changed to January 18.
