She talked about the various issues faced by Indian actresses in real life taking into account the issue of #MeToo campaign which has lately over-shadowed the entire film industry. In an interview with the Business of Fashion, the Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga actress revealed why most of the celebrities in Bollywood chose to remain silent on matters related to women harassment in the industry.
On being asked about why the elite ones in Bollywood opt not to comment anything about the #MeToo movement, Sonam answered people choose to remain silent because there happens to be a lot of shaming and victim blaming in India, that all they prefer to is side-line the whole issue and hide behind.She disclosed the fact that two of her closest friends had faced horrible sexual encounters in the film industry but they haven’t uttered a word about it. The actress also reveals about another friend of hers who has gone through a similar phase in the film industry but chose to remain silent about it.
Talking about her friend, Sonam said that the lady did not want to be tagged as a victim for the rest of her life, especially in the industry. She wanted to be desirable and an icon as her whole career was built on that. Sonam further added that the girl also had to take care of seven of her siblings including her family and that’s the very reason why the actress held herself back from speaking up against the act. Sonam is one of the boldest actresses who came forward and took to media to express about the one she’s concerned with. Kudos to her!
