Being the Punjabi I feel little frustrated when people confuse about my existence and origin. Yes, there exists a lot of confusion and people usually interchange the use of both the words. So it is important that this confusion is carefully dealt with.
Here are the basic differences that exist between the ' Sikh' and 'Punjabi'
Punjabi v/s Sikh
1. One basic difference between the two is that one has regional connotations while the other is connected with a particular culture. There are 4 major religions in our country Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam, Christianity and Sikh is one religion whereas Punjabi is someone who speaks Punjabi and there are different types of Punjabi. We really need to understand this thing that Sikhs can be Punjabi as well but vice versa is not always true.

2. A Sikh is a religion so they follow the religious book 'Sri Granth Sahab' and the principles of Guru Nanak Sahib, who founded the religion while who are Punjabi may be Hindu as well.

3. In Sikhism, it is compulsory for the males to cover their heads with a turban and females also need to cover it with their scarfs. They are expected to keep long hairs and not cut their hairs. However, a lot is changing in recent times while one who is Punjabi does not really need to follow this tradition.
