Indian weddings are occasions of spectacle and statement and the recent past has seen some of the bold changes in the attitude of society towards the marriage. The society is progressing and giving a tough challenge to the outdated customs and rituals.
Here are some of the snippets of progressive India. Seems 'Desh Badal Raha Hai'
1. Same-sex marriages
Love truly has no boundaries of gender, race or colour and the legalisation of same-sex marriages has provided one more feather to the lovebirds. Recently a 43-year-old founder of Rainbow Voices Mumbai held a wedding reception of his marriage with his partner Vincent Allaire who is a French resident.
2. Challenging stereotypes
On one hand where a father of the Bengali bride refused to do the Kanyadaan expressing his protest against the symbolisation of women as property and on the other hand another Bengali bride refused to cry at her Bidai and follow the tradition of throwing the rice signifying the debt repay rituals.
3. Celebrities setting the example
The recent wedding of Isha Ambani, daughter of the richest man had set an example in which stars like Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan served food to the guests. Also, the stars are challenging the ritual of changing the surname after the marriage by keeping both the surnames with her name. They are also celebrating the fusion cultures.
The shy Indian brides have become really bold and they are making a statement by challenging a lot of stereotypes.
