Let us face it, the current government has created situations that are killing the essence of democracy; people are hardly allowed to speak or criticize the government; the country is becoming INTOLERENT with each passing day.
The latest chapter is the case that happened with yesteryear actor and filmmaker Amol Palekar. Highly respected Palekar Saab was invited to the opening of an exhibition called 'Inside The Empty Box' in memory of artist Prabhakar Barwe at National Gallery of Modern Art but as he started off with his speech, other members on stage started interrupting him as he was allegedly speaking ‘against’ the government.

He said: "Many of you may not know that this retrospective will be the last show decided by the advisory committee of local artists and not by some bureaucrat or an agent of the government with an agenda of either moral policing or proliferation of certain art commensurate with an ideological incline."

Before he could say anything more, he got interrupted by a woman who told him: "This is not needed at the moment, sorry ....The function is about Prabhakar Barwe, please stick to that."

But Amol Palekar did not lose his ground and continued with his views, he also stated that writer Nayantara Singh was invited to speak at the Marathi Literary Convention but was uninvited at the last moment because she might comment against the government. At last, he spoke all that was in his heart but was criticized by another woman in the panel who focused on the point that National Gallery of Modern Art is a government gallery and such speech is really unacceptable.
