Amitabh Bachchan personified as the angry young man of Bollywood was the role that was his own. He had created his very own identity in Hindi cinema in the first half of the 1970s, in films such as ‘Zanjeer’ and ‘Deewaar’.
The dishoom-dishoom era where the man was the Quintessential Hero and the only thing that you could see was the hero supremacy. It was not that the heroines did not exist in the movies but the role of the women was definitely the restricted one. She was seen as the romance partner for her hero and someone who would help to look Hero as Hero and villain as Villain because if women were not present on the screen who would the hero fight for?
But thankfully Bollywood has seen a huge shift where the movies such as ZAZZBA gave women the supportive role to men but she definitely was the powerful character of the movie.
With the movies like NH 10, Highway and Gully Boy it seems that angry young man era has seen a shift to angry young women era. Who would have actually imagined a heroine breaking bottles, jaws, claw, thwack, pummel and thumping someone? Alia Bhatt who played an aggressive character which was earlier owned by the heroes of the movies.
