Ranveer Singh’s ‘Gully Boy’ explored the hip hop culture in India and emerged as a smashing hit. And the news is rife that Zoya Akhtar is already planning a sequel to the much loved musical drama. When asked about the news, Zoya said: “My co-writer Reema Kagti and I do feel there’s so much more to be said on the entire hip-hop culture in our country. And another film exploring the theme is being scripted and planned.”
On being questioned if Farhan Akhtar will be a part of the second installment, Zoya said that he will not be in the second part as well as he just does not fit the ‘Gully Boy’ world. Interestingly, Farhan has always acted in every Zoya Akhtar movie except for ‘Gully Boy’.
She said: “He just didn’t fit into Gully Boy. And we’re both sorry about it. Also, his image from the Rock On series is affiliated to an entirely different genre of music. It would have been a bit of a culture shock for the audience to suddenly see him swerve from stadium-rock to hip-hop.”
Business wise, ‘Gully Boy’ has registered good numbers with as much as INR 137 crores coming in. So, rappers embrace, ‘Time Phir Aayga’.
