There are many famous roads in India that have been named after some personality to pay them heartfelt tributes; this is a fact that everyone is aware of but do you know why that particular road or street was named after that person?
Almost none of us know about this, eh! (Yes, even I had to Google up), so to brush up your general knowledge, I have done some homework that will certainly be very helpful for your grey cells: -
1). Rajaji Marg
The famous Rajaji Marg near Teen Murti (New Delhi) is named after Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, the last governor-general of India. The path pays homage to the man for his works in building the nation.
2). Thyagaraja Marg
Saint Thyagaraja is widely known for its contribution in nourishing the world famous Carnatic music. He created many songs, most of which were devotional ones for Lord Rama. The path was made to commemorate the maestro.
3). Balwantrai Mehta Lane
The lane was made to pay tributes to the renowned freedom fighter Balwant Rai Mehta. The man played a huge role in building up the ‘Panchayati Raj’ system. He also acted as the CM of Gujarat and played a huge role in the development of the state.
4). Justice S. B. Road
The road was made to celebrate the works of Justice S.B. Sinha, who was a judge in Supreme Court and is known for many landmark judgments.
5). Ajmal Khan Road
The road is constructed to memorialize the achievements of Ajmal Khan, one of the primary members to discover the ‘Jamia Millia University’. He was always known for his skills in the field of Unani medicines.
