When young men are taking up the arms against the state and there has been a rise of young militancy in the Kashmir amidst that state of chaos and violence there exists a woman who dares to dream and live those dreams. State’s first mountaineer Nahida Manzoor is set to scale the highest peak in the world. The 23-year-old Nahida who lives in the outskirts of Srinagar has already conquered all the peaks in the valley and would now become the first Kashmiri to scale the Mt. Everest.
She has graduated in various mountaineering courses from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering and has so far scaled Mount Deo Tibba- Manali with the height of 6001 meters, the friendship peak of Himachal Pradesh with a height of 5289 meters, with Kashmir’s Mount Mahadev and Mount Tatakooti.
Talking about her dream of climbing the Mt. Everest she says that she has complete faith in herself and she would easily climb it easily. Nahida has worked very hard since the age of 10, this was when she had set her sight on the highest peak of the world. She walks 6 km daily as part of an intense workout.
Her family had been the greatest support system in her dream of mountaineering. Her sister says if there is something more than being proud that is what she feels of her sister.
For fulfilling her dreams she has urged for moral and monetary support from the people of Kashmir as well as outside the Kashmir.
More power to the woman spirit and her dreams.
