On Monday, 25th March, Kings XI Punjab defeated Rajasthan Royals by 14 runs in a thrilling IPL match with the help of opener Chris Gayle’s stormy 79 and Sarfraj Ahmed’s unbeaten 46.
While batting first on Rajasthan’s invitation, Punjab scored 184 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Ajinkya Rahane and Jos Buttler added 78 runs for the first wicket, giving Rajasthan a solid start.
Even after Rahane was dismissed, Butler (69 runs, 43 balls, 10 fours, two sixes) kept attacking Punjab but the match slipped from the hand of Rajasthan with his unfortunate run-out in the 13th over of the innings.
There were still hope when Sanju Samson and Steve Smith and Sanju Samson were on the crease but with there dismissal, the game just slipped from Rajasthan’s hands.
Rajasthan’s team got 170 runs in 9 overs in 20 overs and they had to face a defeat of 14 runs in the match. Chris Gayle was declared the Man of the Match.
With his stunning innings of 79 runs, Chris Gayle became the fastest batsman to score 4000 runs in IPL. He became the 9th player and 2nd overseas player to join the elite list of Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Shikhar Dawan, and, Robin Uthappa.
There were two turning points of in the match first was the stunning catch of KL Rahul. KL Rahul took a brilliant catch of Steve Smith and dismissed him at 20 runs.
Then the second turning point of the match was Jos Buttler’s controversial dismissal by Ravichandran Ashwin. After Rajasthan Royals captain Ajinkhya Rahane got Sanju Samson joined Buttler on the crease to take the match forward. Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler were playing exceptionally well before Butler was dismissed by Ashwin.
Ashwin mankaded Buttler in controversial circumstances in the 13th over with Rajasthan scoreboard reading 108 for two.

Mankading refers to a situation when a bowler runs out a batsman who leaves the popping crease before the ball is being bowled. This is named after Vinoo Mankad who dismissed Australian batsman Bill brown twice in this manner.
