Indian table tennis world Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has constantly attracted everyone’s attention by performing well. Sathiyan is the world’s number 28 table tennis player and his goal is to include himself in the top-15 players in the world rankings by the end of this year.

He knows that this work will not be easy and for this, he will have to work on his fitness in the next few months. Sathiyan has qualified for the World Cup after staying at the 6th place in the ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup held in Yokohama, Japan.

The World Cup will take place from 18 to 20 October in Chengdu, China. World number 28 Sathiyan Gnanasekaran while giving an interview said, “If I continue my own fantastic form then I can make a place in the top-15 players, I’m close to reaching the top-20.”

The 26-year-old TT player says, “I need to increase my fitness level to move forward”. In the ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup held in Yokohama, Japan last week, he was in sixth place. He was defeated by 17-year-old Lin Yun-Ju of Chinese Taipei by 4-0 (11-4 11-8 11-8-14-12).

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran while talking about his performance in the Asian Open says “It was a tiring tournament in which high-level matches were held. All the matches were played as semi-finals and final. I will watch the videos and come back with a better show when I meet him (Yun-Ju) next time.”

Sathiyan has to play in the next few months in the World Table Tennis Championship, Seven Pro Tour (China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic), Ultimate Table Tennis League and Commonwealth Championships.

After this, the World Cup is to be organized. He said, “Now there is a world championship, after that, I can stay in Chennai for the next three weeks. Then I have Seven Pro Tour and Commonwealth Championship.”

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran believes that if he performs well in the world championship, then he will improve his ranking. “I will have enough match to practice before the World Cup. If I do well in the world championship, then my world ranking will improve.” Sathiyan had reached the career rank of 28th in January this year, which is the best ranking of any Indian singles category till date.
