In the latest development surrounding the release of PM Narendra Modi Biopic release, the Supreme Court has asked the Election Commission to look into the movie and decide on its release till April 19. The apex court directed the Election Commission to submit its decision in a sealed envelope. The next hearing on the matter will be on April 22.
Earlier, the Election Commission has banned the film till the Lok Sabha elections. Makers went to the Supreme Court against the Commission’s decision.
The Election Commission had banned the film while citing the elections model code of conduct. The Commission said in its order that during the elections, the performance of any such film cannot be allowed which nurtures the electoral interests of any political party or politician.
Earlier the Supreme Court rejected the petition filed for the ban on the film. It said that the EC is suitable to take a decision on this matter. The Vivek Oberoi Starrer is directed by Omang Kumar. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) i.e. the censor board, has issued an unrestricted (U) certificate to the movie. The film depicts the journey of life from the early days of Modi’s life to the prime minister.
Earlier, the Bombay High Court also had disposed of the petition seeking a ban on the film saying the EC will deal with this issue.
