Being one of the most influential stars, Amitabh Bachchan has a huge fan base across the country. The shenshah of Bollywood has always shied away when it comes to taking a stand on issues of national significance. Having such fan following, Amitabh Bachchan should come forward and speak on issues so that people can follow his views being a public figure.
Amitabh Bachchan while attending a press conference to promote his upcoming film, was asked about the horrifying rape case in Unnao and Kathua rape case. His reply was shocking being a public figure. Bachchan said, "Even discussing this issue feels disgusting, don't bring up this issue. It is terrible to even talk about it."
Being the brand ambassador of the government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign’, people expected that he will be taking a stand on the recent rape case.
It’s not the first time that Amitabh Bachchan shied away from taking a stand on controversies.
When people trolled Priyanka Chopra for wearing a short skirt. Amitabh Bachchan, when asked about his opinion on the trolls by people, said,“I am neither the PM nor Priyanka Chopra. How can I answer then?"
When Mumbai was flooded in August 2017, people across the city were blaming the government and celebrities also came forward to question BMC, the local municipal body. However, instead of taking a strong take on the issue Amitabh came with a witty tweet, " Mumbai real estate prices hit an all-time high -Every building is now sea facing.” In short, he called it the man-made disaster.
When Preity Zinta filed a case of molestation against his ex-boyfriend Ness Wadia, Amitabh Bachchan who has worked several movies with the actress did take a stand. When asked to comment on the issue in a press conference, the actor said, "The matter is in court right now. So it wouldn't be appropriate for me to comment on this."
It seems that the famous Bollywood actor is not quite clear about his views when it comes to speaking on major issues or else is trying to dodge such question to avoid controversy.
