Weekend is here and we can finally sit down and binge watch some shows we like. Streaming sites came as a saviour for people like us who have no plans of going out on weekends. So if you are a person like me who would just crawl into their beds with a box of pizza and million packets of chips and everything unhealthy then here is something interesting for you. By now you must have seen everything that interests you on Amazon Prime but don’t just limit yourself to some of the shows. If you are bored at home why don’t you check out these awesome regional movies there and maybe you will like them.
1. Bhaggamathie (Telugu)
If you are a fan of thriller – horror stories then you must watch this one. It’s a story about a woman who is framed for murder is imprisoned in a bungalow which is haunted. She is then possessed by the spirit of the revengeful queen.
2. Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (Tamil)
This movie is inspired the 1987 Opera heist in Mumbai. Some con artists posing as CBI agents try to rob a bank.
3. Maayavan (Tamil)
It’s a science fiction crime mystery thriller with Jackie Shroff in supporting role. This film is about a cop who tries to solve the mystery of some murder cases that have a disturbing thing in common.
4. Teenkahon (Bengali)
Teenkahon is a drama/mystery movie showcasing three stories that show the changing face of morality and values.
5. Dhananjoy (Bengali)
This film is based on the conviction of Dhananjoy Chatterjee a security guard who was accused of ‘rape and murder’. He spent 14 years in jail and then was hanged to death on 15 August 2004, all on the basis of circumstantial evidence.
6. Pather Panchali (Bengali)
Director: Satyajit Ray, Screenplay : Satyajit Ray – now who wouldn’t watch this magnum opus by Satyajit Ray. I wouldn’t tell you more, I think I have said enough.
7. Anhe Ghore Da Daan (Alms for a Blind Horse - Punjabi)
This movie is about the social stigma of labour inequality and how a family in Punjab stands up against it.
8. Hemlock Society (Bengali)
Hemlock Society - a school that teaches aspirants to successfully commit suicide. Yes, it is as funny and shocking as it sounds.
9. Har Har Byomkesh (Bengali)
Detective Byomkesh Bakshi tries to solve a murder mystery. Our own Indian Sherlock Holmes – Detective Bakshi will not spoil your weekend.
10. Chaar (Bengali)
If you are a fan of some great acting and storytelling then you will love this one. It is a film based on four different stories written by different writers.
These movies made my staying home weekend plans possible. I hope they do the same for you.
