It is the 21st century and we are living in a democratic with a right to speech. We have the right to speak whatever is on our mind and do whatever we want to do unless it is harmful to another human being. We talk about developing and moving forward every single day but are we really moving forward with our thought process and how we treat other people and their choices. Well, I think we are not.
I know you all must be thinking why I am suddenly ranting about freedom of speech and mindset issues. Well, coming to that I am sure that the new Netflix show Sacred Games is still fresh in your mind. Everyone loved Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and for sure you must remember the actress who essayed the role Nawaz’s wife, Subhadra.
Rajshiri Pandey was seen in the role of Subhadara and I felt that she did a very great job. But there were still a number of people who started the trolling the actress and even started calling her a ‘pornstar’. But the actress proved that she not one of those who sit silently while others pass a comment on her work.
Recently during a with a leading daily, Rajshiri gave a befitting reply to all her trollers and we couldn’t be more proud of anything.
“It was a tender moment between a husband and wife. Sex is a beautiful thing… coming close is a beautiful thing. It is unfortunate that people are talking about it this way. They are immature and don’t understand the relevance of these (sex) scenes. I am not dancing on something which is derogatory. I am making love to my husband and that too not in a crass way.”
She also said that she completely trusted the writers of the show,
“I did feel bad about it (criticism), but I have to move on. I approached this scene as Subhadra’s character. As an artist, I have to do my job. I know my intention was not wrong. The writers (Smita Singh, Vasant Nath and Varun Grover) are very good at their job, they would not write something which is not relevant. It is not like a commercial item number, ki pehle item number becho, fir movie bhechege.”
All these people who started criticizing Rajshiri for her wonderful acting skills because they felt it was not good at a woman’s part to fulfil what her roles demand, well if you guys are so much sincere about what woman do and how woman act then you shouldn’t be enjoying the item numbers also because that objectifies woman.
And Rajshiri it was a spot on reply from your side and you were just perfect in that character you played.
