‘Padmaavat’ has proved to be the first blockbuster of 2018 with rave reviews and great blockbuster numbers. Sanjay Leela Bhansali had to face numerous troubles to make the movie and then had trouble during the release too. The movie starred Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, Deepika even received death threats.
Not only Bajirao Mastani, Aishwarya was the first choice for Padmaavat (first named as Padmaavati) as well. Yes, Sanjay Leela Bansali everytime goes back to this beauty for her grace in acting but unfortunately they could not work together since ‘Guzaarish’.
In an interview, Aishwarya revealed that “He didn’t get the Bajirao for me. He wanted me to do Padmaavat, but could not get the Khilji for me, at the casting time. So, that’s how it didn’t happen.”
Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted Aish to play Rani Padmini and we are not surprised seeing the history of their work together. Sanjay and Aishwarys worked together on three films ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Devdas’ and ‘Guzaarish’.
On why the hit duo couldn’t work together on ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Padmaavat’, Mrs. Bachchan said “So, at the end of the day, you need to see the casting. If the casting is not happening, then sometimes, it doesn’t come together. The intention is always there to work together, but it didn’t happen. We both loved working with each other, so let’s see, whenever it is meant to be.”
Bhansali initially wanted to cast Aishwarya and Salman together for ‘Bajirao Mastani’ but looking at the track record of the actors, it became impossible for them to work after an ugly break-up.
The film finally happened with Deepika and Ranveer and so happened with ‘Padmaavat’ too. In the later though, Bhansali couldn’t find a ‘Khilji’ who will compliment this beauty.
