Are you the person who love fancy home-cooked meals? If yes, you are going to love this. If you are away from home and you are not a good cook then this recipe will help you out. Make this Ghar ki tadka khichdi which will taste just like your mom’s home cooked meal.


Things you need:
1/2 cup toor dal
1/2 cup rice
3/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 green chilli, slit lengthwise
6-8 curry leaves (kadi patta)
1/4 tsp hing (asafoetida)
1/2 cup finely chopped onions
1 tbsp finely chopped garlic
1/2 tbsp ginger paste/grated ginger
1/2 cup finely chopped tomatoes
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder (dhania powder)

For the tadka:
2 tbsps ghee
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
5-6 curry leaves (kadi patta)
5-6 curry leaves (kadi patta)
1/2 tbsp finely chopped garlic (use 1 tbsp if you want more flavour)
1 dried red chilly, broken into pieces
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
Steps to prepare this delicious meal:
1. Wash dal and rice carefully and then soak it in water for almost 20 minutes. After 20 minutes drain the water, put rice and dal in the pressure cooker. Add 2.5 cups of water to it, little turmeric powder and salt for taste.


2. Cook it in the pressure cooker for 3 whistles and reduce the flame. Mash the khichdi and mix it lightly.


3. Now put oil on a non-stick pan, heat it and add some cumin seeds. Once they start to crackle, add a pinch of hing to it, some curry leaves, green chilli and sauté for few seconds. Add some onions, let it cook till it turns translucent. Add ginger and garlic cook it for 30 seconds to 1 minute on medium flame. Add some tomatoes, mix it for 2-3 minutes. If the tomatoes start burning add some salt to it that will prevent them from burning. Add some chilli powder and coriander powder and cook it for 30 seconds.


4. Add a cup of water to khichdi and mix it well. Then add it to the tomato onion masala you just made in the pan. Add water according to your wish. Adjust salt according to your taste. Keep it aside.


5. Now take a small pan for tadka. Heat some ghee or oil and add a tsp of cumin seeds to it. Once they start crackling, add curry leaves, garlic, dried chilli and sauté. Keep it in the pan for a few seconds then add some chilli powder and cook it for a few seconds. After this switch off the heat.



6. Finally, add tadka to the khichdi and voila your delicious meal is ready.


Serve hot with some pickle and curd and enjoy your meal.
