Tanushree Dutta incident is raising a lot of questions and revealing some dark sides of the society as well. An actress who left her career and the country because of a terrible incident that happened to her in 2008 came back after 10 years to get justice. All she wants is the people who disrespected her, assaulted her and threatened her should be punished. As responsible citizens of this country or just for the sake of humanity we should be supporting her and her war for justice. But do we do instead?
We start raising questions on her motive, we start asking her if she was sleeping for all these years, we start judging her character, we ask her if she is doing it for publicity because we almost forgot that she left all the publicity behind when we couldn’t serve her justice ten years back. Bigger stars don’t want to comment about it because it didn’t happen to them and it don’t concern them in any way that a woman from their own industry was assaulted by one of their own and now a star laughs at it.
Where does all this end? How low are we ready to go? These are the same Bollywood stars who come up and give speeches about woman equality and safety, they are the ones who hold up banners and candles when some news of a girl who has been assaulted start doing rounds on the news channels. Why are they mum when one from their own industry has been assaulted by a so-called big star?
Some find it amusing and laughs about it. Recently Shakti Kapoor was asked his views on this he thought it was appropriate to laugh off. The 66-year-old actor said, "I don't know anything about this case. This was 10 years back; I was a kid back then." Shakti Kapoor must have been in his 50s when this whole thing happened and the actor thinks he was a kid back then. Shakti Kapoor himself has a history with casting couch. In March 2005, a leading news channel released a video where Shakti Kapoor was seen asking for sexual favours from an undercover reporter who was posing to be an aspiring actress.
