Recently Bollywood was rocked by a revelation made by actress Tanushree Dutta in which she made an allegation against a leading male actor, accusing him of sexually harassing her. Tanushree's sensational sexual harassment allegation sparked a #MeToo movement in India after Hollywood.
Now another story of sexual harassment has come to light. This time the person in question is comedian Utsav Chakraborty. This incident surfaced when a girl named Mahima Kukreja shared a series of screenshots from her personal chat which shows that Utsav has been asking her to share her nude pictures with him.
However after Utsav admitted to his actions, his fraternity has come out in open and condemned this comedian though in the past the same fraternity had stood behind Utsav. Many male comedians have come forward and apologised for not taking any action earlier. Here are some reactions that have come forward.
“This whole thing is horrible and Utsav’s behaviour has been despicable. It’s shocking to get to know of this but I can vouch I just had no idea about it. Not trying to virtue signal, but just telling the fact. I have not known Utsav personally that much and fortunately not had a chance to work with him. I’m equally shocked to get to know that there have been many who were aware of this and had still gone about working with him. I just feel horrified for the victims who had to go through this. I hope legal proceedings happen and the perpetrator gets his due. ” said Abijit Ganguly
I’m aware that this kind of thing happens and is mighty dangerous. If it’s being reported then it’s good — coz it’ll stem the problem and it’ll make everyone scared and rightly so. — Karthik Kumar
I wish I knew earlier. I wish people spoke about this. I’m saddened to hear the stories, and I wish nobody has to ever go through what those women had to.As a producer and comedian, it is my job to ensure that the scene is not a breeding ground for such misdemeanors. An investigation into this is necessary. — Kashyap Swaroop
I’m following the allegations as they’re unfolding. I don’t know if saying words like “it’s shocking” or “this wasn’t expected” makes sense anymore. There have been far too many instances of men misbehaving with women that have unraveled in the past year or so. The evidence is overwhelming and I believe the women who’ve come out with their stories. We as men need a huge reformation. Make sure that “being woke” isn’t used just to earn brownie points but to try and learn, grow, understand, change and really behave way, way better than we currently do. — Abbas Momin
It is a great thing that women are coming forwarding and fearlessly pointing out at the men who did wrong to them. If the voice of women becomes strong day by day, it will surely end this kind of predatory behaviour.
